I have been mulling over the things I saw at both CES and MacWorld. It is easy to focus on products like the iPhone or the 108” LCD screen, but I have been mulling over the smaller products that I saw that solved real problems, ones that I encounter on an every day basis.
For anyone who reads my blog, they should be aware of my fondness for the products from Etymotic Research.
For about 90 days I have testing and using the Ety-8s. They are dynamite. I have been reporting back to Etymotic some ideas about making them better, but I would unconditionally recommend them to anyone reading my blog.
I try to get to the gym daily. My goal over the last year has been to get in great shape. I am almost there every day, and when I am in the gym, I find that music is critical to the whole experience. Critical in that I am probably one of the older Americans in the gym, and that to keep my sanity, my music is a buffer from the insane music that gyms seem intent on pumping out.
The real punch line is that all these young people see me listening to my music without cords. They kind of wonder how it works, they never have enough courage to ask, and the Ety-8s work. Just the way you want them to.
Could they be lighter, smaller, cheaper, sure…and are the Etymotic folks aware of that, you got it!
When I was at MacWorld, there were people standing in line to talk to the Etymotic team, very cool, and when you have great music and no cords, then life is much cooler….
And when I figure out how sync them with my ThinkPad life will be even cooler…
Wow, I didn't know that Etymotic were making wireless headphones now. I've been a fan since ER4 was their only model.
It's one of those little things that you ask yourself how you lived before you got them. What do I care that the Tube ride is deafeningly noisy? I'm happily ensconced behind my ER6's reading a cosy mystery. I've been known to wear them even on the days when I've left the iPod at home.
Last time I broke my beloved Ety's I briefly tried Sennheiser's noise insulating in-ear phones but they just didn't go into my ears so the noise insulating effect was lost.
Now I've gotta find out if my local London Etymotic pusher has these sweet wireless buds. Thanks for the heads up!
