I have spent the last 4 days, cleaning, packing, and arranging to move my stuff. In the course of doing so, I found myself spending time, going through boxes of pictures. Many of them were from the 30’s, 40’s and 50’s. I am sure that my Mother wore out a number of cameras. As I went through the pictures, I resolved to sort them, and file them, and mail them to cousins, friends and anyone that I could connect them with. But, the reality is that as good as my memory is, there were all kinds of pictures of people that I didn’t know or recall.
Too bad that there wasn’t a means by which my Mother could have tagged them, so that they could have made a child happy for a moment. But the faces don’t connect to names, and my choices will be to save them for a day, or throw them away. Not the end of the world, but sad nevertheless.
You could try scanning and uploading them to riya - it won't work out the names, but it will help - once you have a name for a face, it will find all the photo's that it thinks have the same face in it for you.
It would also let you share photo's with any web connected relatives that might be able to search for faces they can name.
