If you haven’t read the comments posted to my original post, they are pretty remarkable. Worth reading…
To think that I would have the audacity to knock the iPhone and Apple’s business practices, seems to smack of bit of religious heresy, but I knew that going in. You might think that I had somehow stepped on the flag, criticized motherhood, etc.
The one thing I did forget to mention was that I have purchased a Griffin PowerJolt for the iPhone. It works great as do the other products that I have purchased from Griffin. My favorite being the iTrip Auto which I use all the time, and which I take with me on every trip to charge/use in rental cars.
My hope is that Griffin combines the two for the iPhone in which case I will probably load far more music on my iPhone than I presently have.
I wrote a detailed response off line to one of the persons who commented, but haven’t heard back so decided to repeat here, and see what happens next. My responses to the comments are below! I will post them, and stand back, and what kind of fire storm results.
a. I have about 8K contacts on my iPhone…the slider is a bit of a disaster, it takes forever, and often doesn’t work. I have learned from another comment, which I will publish, that you can go into the Map app on the iPhne, and type in a name and it will do the search, but not sure how I would have found that out. Did you know that you could do that?
b. I have tried everything to sync with Outlook/Exchange, have read the posts, etc. and the fact that Apple is hiring someone with that skill set is to me evidence that they got the message. It should work out of the box. Exchange is the standard for businesses everywhere I go. It dwarfs Notes.
c. Battery life is dismal. I have both a Treo 650 & 680 and HTC phone. All have radically longer battery life than the iPhone. I have talked to a dozen people, and they all agree. I am told that car chargers are selling like hot cakes for the iPhone. Maybe people are using it more, but regrettably keep it plugged in all the time.
d. Apple would want to sell Windows to generate revenue and expand their market share. The best data I have seen reflects that the Mac market is about 3.5% of the computer hardware market. Why in the world wouldn’t they want to try to say double that market share. Why should all those buyers who need vertical market applications that work in Windows have the opportunity to use them seamlessly. Why limit your market! My guess is that there are all kinds of buyers out there who would buy a Mac, if accessing Windows in a native environment was a toggle away. And if the market share for Apple doubled, wouldn’t it radically enhance the opportunity for those who are trying to build software for the Mac market?
e. As for Microsoft allowing it, e.g. selling Vista on the Mac, I have never, ever encountered anyone at Microsoft would does not want to sell more software. Further, I am reasonably sure, that if Apple approached Microsoft for an OEM license package, under the present guidelines from the Anti-Trust case, Microsoft would be wise to treat Apple just like they treat Dell/HP/Lenovo, etc. Do you really doubt that they wouldn’t love to have the opportunity to ship Windows on Macs?
