As anyone who knows me knows, Robert Scoble and I are very good friends. We met during the stone age period of blogging, and now that he is a media star, for which I am delighted, we have remained very close friends.
In his last two trips to Seattle, he has either stayed with me or we have spent a lot of time hanging out together, as he did his interviews for the Scoble Show.
Yesterday we were at Zillow, Google and Microsoft.
More to come about those visits, but Wednesday we were at Getty Images.
Getty sells millions of photo images annually and generates more profit than any other photo stock company does in revenue.
The event got kicked off by Jonathan Klein. Excellent presentation, very smart guy. We saw an excellent presentation of Getty’s still in beta new search site. If I got my data right, Getty is having about 11,000 images submitted per week.
Fun discussion about what is “interesting as compared to what is useful…”
11,000 images a day are submitted to Getty…wow! They just took us through how they index the images. Largely a process around requiring the submitter to include meta-data tags.
Then they showed us even more cool stuff, and to think that I spent a long time practicing law….
ActiveWords being a semantic tool, has probably kept me way too heads down, as the images and tools that we saw were sensational!
Just for coming, Getty did a very clever thing, they took head shots of using professional make-up artists and photographers with killer cameras and related technology. But for the fact that I getting older, my picture turned out great, and now I have a professional quality head-shot that I can use when asked for something.
