Just had a fun lunch with Susan Kitchens. She lives closely, and we chatted a bit about the lack of charm in this part of the world.
Playlist Magazine Panel: Secrets of iPod and iTunes
Paul Griffin - Griffin Technology,
Apple has all the right pieces, no one else is even close. If you are building for Apple, you are always at their mercy. If you walk into BestBuy, you see a whole wall of stuff for the iPod! Try to adapt as quickly as you can.
Chris Breen - Playlist Magazine, (Moderator) If you are a wacko, you need to seek your people! Good Album art helps you get on iTunes.
Leo Laporte - Leoville.com, Does Apple communicate with you? Apple is making such great hardware, that people aren’t bitching..
Dan Frakes - MacWorld Magazine, What was the reaction when Apple changed things… Opportunity to sell more accessories. Sell them two remotes.
The program says….Four experts from the world of iPods and iTunes will discuss the latest ways to make the most of this ubiquitous portable audio player and how Podcasting is affecting the ways people download and consume content. You'll also gain a better understanding of how the podcast directory works within iTunes. Finally, the panel will discuss the many add-on hardware tools and software available for the iPod allowing you to do more than you ever imagined with this one device!
Griffin…has some interesting products coming.
Leo… $1.99 too much for a podcast! $3,000 per hour for his TV Show. No body knows what is going to work. All friends trying different stuff. Wants viewers or listeners supported. There is going to be an ad economy. Kids are going to pay $1.99 for music videos. Tivo important to the whole model. Fanatical base that has been disenfranchised. Podtract someone to watch.
Successful podcasts, you have got to be light and humorous. Have to be self deprecating! Have to be yourself. Should do what you do!
Note to self… JD Lasica is taking a bunch of pictures. He’s got a great camera. Flickr tag will be portablemediaexpo !
Frakes was just asked: “So you are a gear god!, what have you seen that is new?”
Playing it in different places. Media and player are the same thing. New ways to get single player to play in different places.
Leo: “Very strange, in that you are bringing your music with you!” Gear for podcasting? …ever changing! Uses Adobe Audition. Puts quite a bit of compression at the end. Lot of work to take 8 tracks to mix.
One of the sub-events that I have heard great things about is Doug Kaye’s Podcast Academy.
Leo “It starts with the content, but do it for the passion!”
