Mobiltrax day two...

I came to this event to try to figure out how we might port ActiveWords to mobile platforms. I have had a lot of excellent meetings. Everyone who has seen our tablet version agrees that ActiveWords on a phone is a killer idea. I have a couple of leads on talented programmers on Windows Mobile devices, which is needless to say our target audience.

I have seen some great new phones. The interesting piece is that the world seems to be divided here between Windows Mobile and Treos. I don’t think I have seen a single company or application trying to to pitch products for the Blackberry products.

The last talk yesterday by Rick Roesler, VP, Mobile Devices Division (Handhelds) was excellent!

Rick said "you need to make it simple to get what you want"....(and when I showed him ActiveWords on the Tablet, he suggested that we talk further, and gave me the name of the key guy on his staff! Rick also said:

  • "All the stuff you can do on your pc you can do on your phone."
  •
  •  "You don't care where you content is, you just want to know how to get to it!"
  •
  • "Everything you do on your PC you should be able to do on your phone without a lot of thought."
  •
  • "HP handhelds have the same power as PII at 450 MHz, same as PC from 1999. Trend is only going to continue. "
  •
  • "Future: Your phone will be your PC, you will just plug it into a monitor and a keyboard"

Now we are into Demos. Some good, some lame, and some just don’t get the issue of getting it done in 6 minutes. I know, I have been there and done that.

I misspoke, now a company, EasyReach, is showing off a product running on a Blackberry. Too date, Blackberry’s have never done enough for me to get me interested in using them. Probably because they are hard to read and the phones suck. But they have sold lots of them.

Drop In Meda…Showing a nifty technology by which you create campaign logic for E-Mail marketing to phones. The demo he is showing for is for getting surfing conditions E-Mailed to your phone.

On stage now is Maui Software. They are doing games on phones. I played with one last night, and I am not sure that I am their target market. I played a bowling game and the first two balls went into the gutter.

TalkPlus…VoIP benefits to cell phones.
Ten-way conference calling, i.e. $.05 per minute.
7 different identities in your phone, find me numbers.

Voice Genesis…I got a nice t-shirt from them last night!

On stage now is Qualcomm. They are pitching TV on the cell phone. Hard to imagine that I would watch it. They, i.e. Qualcomm are making a big push in this space.
