Live from the Copa, my friend David Weinberger is on stage, holding court, and having fun talking about what blogging is not! He has some great slides, using a read font that looks like bad handwriting to emphasize stuff on various power point slides.
Great quote…showing the Juicy Fruit blog..”This is shit…the shit barrier has been broken at 9:16 A.M.”
“Wikipedia is not paper”
Heavy metal umlaut … there are no fonts with umlaut over the “n”.
“Publications filter interests, blogs express interests”
No person involved in personalization, computer software targeting people!
Long tail is really a convoluted mess!
Writing ourselves into existence, every element is new and important, talking about who we are! “My blog is me”…new public is being constructed in conversation.
The long tail, is blogging! When you write, you have to assume that your readers will forgive you! Something new, this public intimacy.
Doc’s impulse is that of little acts of generosity.
N.Y. Times…only four links that lead out of the Times site! Tiny slice of opinion unwilling to point out side of itself! The opposite of blogging.
Multi-subjectivity. How the world matters to us!
Akma…post on forgiveness! Endless web of links on this topic…
The world is not going to stop having conversation. The ability to let go and drift apart…
Blogging is not about you! Building a business versus building a fort! Great slides…fun talk, best of the conference so far! Customers know more about your products and services than you! Network plus smart people, results the Wisdom of Crowds.
Internal use of blogging is really important, about collecting and preserving knowledge. Blogging does it a fraction of the cost!
Four steps to take!
Listen….
Audit… figure out who is blogging or what they are reading.
Engage…be really careful about who is to blog!
Give up…give up control! If you can’t give up control, do blog!
Make your mistakes already..you make the product, but you don’t use it! Back off and give up control!
Insist on being incredibly borring, try not to make a make a big PR blog!
Great slide…Moses on the left, white bread on the right!
Blogs need real voice, and not made up conversation! Not about risk, but about connection!
Market is people talking! Entering that conversation in the wrong way akin to being at an envent with a bullhorn.
Key point is being a fallable human being.
Question where is this going…answer…”In truth, I don’t know, but I am willing to make things up!”….
