ActiveWords and TypePad...solving another problem with a little bit of scripting...or Voila...it is done...

I am a big fan of SixApart and TypePad. I recommend the company and the product to anyone that that wants to talk about blogging. Early on one of the real problems was comment spam. I routinely got all kinds of horrible stuff, but now they have re-engineered the comments so that every time someone comments I get an E-Mail right inside Outlook where I can focus on it.

I haven’t thought much about how I might deal with comments from a content perspective, but I do try to always respond to the comment, sometimes just to thank them and pitch them on ActiveWords.

However the comment E-Mail that I get always comes with a colored back ground. So simply replying means that my response is the same green background.

Recognizing again the brilliance of our team to develop a scripting language that is easy to understand and use, ( and it was clearly not my idea….)

So I wrote this little script:

<ALT>r</ALT><alt>o</alt>bc<down:1><enter> , type “form”, trigger it and….

What it does is reply to an E-Mail message, then goes to the format, and changes it from green to white. Works perfectly!

I was about to E-Mail the team at SixApart, but figured, why bother, this works great! Try it and tell me what you think.

just tried it and it works like a charm! Great work Buzz and AW team!

Buzz -- thanks for the quick script ... works great!

Ya know, Buzz, it's kind of backwards, but maybe one of the best ways you could explain ActiveWords to people these days is that it's like Greasemonkey for your desktop. What GM does for Firefox, ActiveWords does for Windows. Funny, since AW has been around so much longer, but it's a good way to give people a new perspective.
